New to bonsai care, and I need a little help

Hi! I'm relatively new to this, but I've had my juniper bonsai for 4 months now, and I'm a little worried about it as it looks a little yellow now and the little green buds on its trunk have all turned brown, with the exception of one, which is green. I've been reading more online recently about care since it started looking a little yellow-ish, and everyone else's seems to be green to dark green. I've been keeping it my sunroom and watering it about once a week, but the soil seems dry, and I took out the little decorative rocks that came with it as I heard they might hurt the tree. I checked the roots, and they seemed to all be a reddish-brown color. Please help me as I love my little tree and I really want it to stay around. Thank you so much!

I'm not much for help cause I'm new myself but I do know one thing... the more info the better and a picture is priceless
Where do you live?

Oh and don't water on a schedule. Water when the plant needs it. (Before it completely dries out but not when it's still wet)

I live in the south east, where it's very hot and humid, so I'm a little hesitant to put it outside, but I'd like to do what's best. I greatly appreciate your help!

It needs to be outside. Sunlight and water will do it good. Maybe partial sunlight (hopefully someone else with experience will chime in) but being outside will help if it's not to late. Most likely all your issues are from being indoors for 4 weeks.Just make sure it doesn't dry out to bad if it is that hot out.

I will definitely do that! Again, thank you so much for your help!

Sorry to say it, but it's to late for this one. Some of these little junipers are dead before they even leave the store. Just takes a while to loose all the color.
Junipers belong outside no matter what the guy at the store told you. If it's hot, adjust your watering accordingly. Once per day would totally be within the realm of normal.
Start with something you know is healthy and learn to keep it that way. That is the first step. Get in the habit of sticking your finger in the substrate to check for moisture. Lift the pot and compare weight when just watered and when dry. Don't get to discouraged by the first loss. It happens to everyone, and my not have been your fault.

Good luck and welcome to Crazy

...Lift the pot and compare weight when just watered and when dry...

I thought this would be subtle and take time to learn but this is super easy to tell. First time I watered I lifted it up after watering and then the next day I lifted it before watering and it is totally different. First trick of horticulture that I learned that I could use cause I'm still that new.

For both please put more specific location in profile. Several different climate areas in WA and humid SE covers many states;).
