This past january, when I went to purchase some substrate, I stumbled with a little pebble,

so I buy a nice flowering quince "toyo nishiki" to put on it.

First of all, I made a concrete foundation to stabilce the rock IMHO in the best position

After a couple of days, I double checked that all was correct

And finally, by now, when the concrete was complety dry, I put the small bush over it

I'm really excited wiht this cultivar, and barely I can wait to see the flowers open!

My plan is to let it grow as much as it can this year, and then chop the trun near the rock in 2026 keeping only the root over the rock and a few centimetres of the main trunk. Then bend the new groth and start the ramification.

We will see.

Cheers!

Good luck with it. I've one Martin and older poster who used to frequent the forum sent me. I no longer have it bound the roots securely cling to the rock. But this shows it in a small snippet. Mine is less formal ... you look to be setting up a more formal image. Being a more upright tree.

Along with a still shot. Pot is a John Cannon. Species also a Toyo Nishiki.FB_IMG_1728090130186.jpg

I'll add...which I meant to do. I don't permit flowers. I focus on development. Early on. Ramification and structure. I have two Toyo Nishiki on my bench ... both have developed in a really timely manner taking that aspect. Blooms are short lived...so I don't permit the spent energy. But focus on structure development.

I still don't know how the ramification will be, there are a world of posibilities.

Here is another good model to follow

By now, my main goal is to faten the roots: big pot and a lot of aeral groth is mandatory. I'll cut the flowers as soon as they fade, but I'm really eager to see them for the first time.

Next year, we will see how it sprout after chopping the top, and I'll made a decission. Perhaps an hagging branch in the right side will be nice too, who knows!

Thanks for your coments!

I like the cascading branch concept. I can't say the time frame for development. While permitting flowers. Since I don't go that route. Maybe another can offer some light there.

But by not... this Toyo Nishiki developed readily. It's been fun. It arrived on my bench in 2019. For a time reference of development you see.

Again, best of luck to ya.
