New Hinoki Cypress

I picked up this small hinoki for $19 at my local nursery. I'm very pleased with it already, without doing any work to it. It is a bit top heavy right now. Can I trim branches now in mid winter, or wait until the spring.

Not sure. I haven't dug down to find out yet. It looks like it might be pretty deep.

Trim and wire away. This is great material to start with. You want to do it before spring

definitely need to thin the apex dramatically so those lower branches dont get any weaker (assuming you want to keep those)
