New free tree

I was given this tree because it was half dead
I trimmed out all the dead branches and am left with this here......its 31" from the dirt to the top. I will be making it much shorter!

Any idea what it is? I havent been able to figure it out. I am not so good at ID ing "pines" as i am maples and other deciduous trees.

Ive been wanting to make a big forest planting. A mixed Evergreen and deciduous like i have in the forests around me.......i need a biooog damn pot!!!!

Yeah i could use a small plastic hydroponic flood tray

With a fancy shmancy wood job around it to hide plastic

Ultra intricate japanese dovetail jionery to hide being a plastic tray hider

PILES of mosses to hide it all togerther

......possibly tiny fish in a tiny pond

Free is free. That said, DAS don't make good bonsai unless you like wiring and rewiring the same branches all the time. You will find that you will do the same work over and over and over because branches don't set well.

What are the cons of embedding a piece of wire into the branch itself....?

I've seen it done with Junipers...run along the length....but I think its removed eventually.
