Needle Juniper Advice

Recently picked up this needle juniper. Was wondering how well they respond to trunk splitting? Main trunk is about an inch thick but very stiff. Better off grafting towards the bottom? or raffia and heavy wire, no split? or should I attempt to split the trunk? Thanks in advance.

Pinch it in the top and let it grow and gain strength in the bottom, then you can cut the upper part or airlayer it
