Hackberry .Need some input .Spring is coming. Need some guidence on what to do next
Thanks for you response. I'm heading toward an informal upright, but I'm open to suggestions.Hello from Charlotte! Hackberries love it here. What styles appeal to you?
I tend to agree with this approach, but I havent seen much budding lower in the truck in the past. But if you'r scared get a dog!I have no experience with this species but if it were mine I would chop the trunk a few inches above the lowest branch, in case there is die back. Hopefully the trunk lower down will bud on the old wood. Also it will give Better taper.
I have considered this, but I have heard Broom Style Hackberries are very difficult. Also I feel the the height will lend a more feminal appearance ( not that there is annything wrong with that!) I will ponder. ThanksIt'd help to know what sort of tree it is, when and where you got it, and where you are.
That last one will come up allot, so it's best to add a general location and growing zone to your profile.
You've got a little bit of movement in the trunk already, and some decent maturing bark. Might make an interesting broom style, but you'd likely want to get rid of those 2 big branches. One of them at least.
If you want to develop it as an informal upright, a chop down low is recommended since the trunk has a long section without any taper. Thanks for you response. I'm heading toward an informal upright, but I'm open to suggestions.
Welcome! That has a nice base. If you want a larger (faster) bonsai with less taper then I would repot by cutting off the lower half of the roots and putting it into a smaller container. As far as the top goes, you could try something like the image below.Hackberry .Need some input .Spring is coming. Need some guidence on what to do next
