yesterday
this guy has started thickening the trunk too fast in this spot, so it needs to stop if i don't want insane reverse taper. i should have already wired some movement into the two lowest branches so as future jin they'll match the movement of the trunk, but i didn't know as much as i do now. oh well, i have to do something, though. i think I'm headed in the right direction.

Man this is a good example of what a sacrifice branch can do to a juniper.
thanks brother. as soon as the bends get too tight for my liking, I'll go ahead and chop the sacrifice back to about where I'll jin it at. this tree has really heiped me grasp the concept of growing juniper cuttings for bonsai. can't wait to start some myself. i was thinking of taking some this fall since my common and golden sport junipers are really taken off this spring, as it's been 2 years since repot.

i went to remove those couple wires, but there was too much foliage in the way. so i thinned some out... and then thinned the rest. and since it was thinned out, i might as well wire up some branches 😄 used 3mm on three branches, and 2mm on about eight. now i won't be stressed out about the branches growing without any movement for awhile. don't know what will be future branches or jin, so you have to be ready.

where i plan to shari when i get some extra time. just to start. I'll move it up the tree slowly. eventually I'll start one on the backside to increase the ribbon effect 🎗🧣

this guy took a big dive off the bench not too long ago, because of the storm or one of my cats i don't know. not too much damage, but it was loose in the pot. so i repotted and chopped the sacrifice. 8 years old. almost 7 years on my bench.

This is an awesome thread that I’ll be forwarding to various folks in the future. Thanks for sharing!

looked like it was doing ok after the repot, even though the roots looked super weak, but after that hard freeze in late march it started browning out. here's a pic of the last little bit of green before it passes away.

i just separated the cuttings i took in february. they all had a nice looking little root formation just starting to poke out from the callus. looked like a midevil mace. anyways, we're starting over with more material and more knowledge, soooo...(blows raspberry at air)

Sorry for the loss. It was quite a ride scrolling through the thread. But Best wishes on the cuttings! They look really nice. I love JPN myself.
