Hello! I bought a very small juniper pre-bonsai plant in December. I also live next to Phoenix, Arizona, so my juniper has been pretty happy outside through the winter. Recently, the temps have been climbing. I had read that the juniper loves sun, so I moved my little plant to the sunniest spot in my yard. Over the past few days, it went from a healthy green to a crispy brown. It is also reaching 90 degrees F outside at its high. I'm not sure if it is related to the move or not.

How much sun is too much? I have been pretty light on the watering and haven't had any problems with him until now. Is there a certain temperature that is too hot for the juniper?

Also, can someone advise me on the best fertilizer ratio for a baby juniper and when I can apply it and how often?

Thank you so much for all your help!20150318_150712.jpg 20150318_150745.jpg

I think the little guy is a goner. Most Junipers need 4 -6 hours of sun per day. I'm not really sure what's going on with the soil but under the rocks it looks very dry to me. It is very possible that the tree has been declining since you got it in December or even before. I've had some Junipers that took more than four months to start showing signs of death. Also, I wouldn't be fertilizing it at this point. You can try putting it back in the shade and see what happens. It's all part of the game my friend.

I had the same thing happen to me this year. Last few weeks of winter I noticed it was a little crispy but still normal color I figured it was due to lack of Sun so I put it outside in 'full sun' (it was a cloudy day so not really) one morning, came back seven hours later and it was Brown like yours. Sorry but yours is already on a decline.

Lol.

I got a baconized (touched to save) juniper too!

Maybe my fall BSC entry too!

I'll be verifying the "not as tasty" part later!
