Let it grow 3 year the chop the top. Chop real low. The top can be airlayer or cuttings.

Right now it’s not a bonsai, but a seedling. Not trying to be harsh at all. It needs time to grow into a bonsai. The above advise about waiting 3 years sounds about right, maybe longer depending on the size of trunk your looking to achieve. Even a tiny shohin needs time to grow.

Oh I don't see your response as harsh at all there's very little information online about this phase of my ficus religiosa, that's why I asked here for responses like this one. Any bit of knowledge gained is good.

I have this species and it will depend on your climate on how fast it will develop and the care you give it. I am in the U.K so this is quite slow to develop is grows in sporadic bursts for me, but in a tropical location these will grow like a freight train.

Many ficus sp can grow really quick if given the opportunity. They do love fertilizer and will grow faster with plenty of feeding.
Ficus are also one of the few species I have come across that will still thicken even in smaller containers but a bigger container will make thickening even faster.
Ficus will still try to grow tall and thin. During development allow them to grow for a few years to get thickening but then chop low. Most ficus shoot freely from bare wood and regular grow and chop will give essential taper to your bonsai trunk.
