Wondering if this is normal or if there is something wrong. The actual leaves and branches are what smell like cat pee and overall it looks healthy and like it’s doing fine. It is becoming more fragrant as the days go on. Help!!!

the branches are too high for either of my cats to be able to reach.

No such place exists. I once came home and found one of my cats on my neighbors roof.
Try taking the plant outside and hosing it down. See if that helps with the odor. Careful not to wash all the soil out of the pot.

I find one of my cats hiding atop the kitchen cabinets every now and again! I have yet to witness how this occurs but it happens

If it smells like cat pee, it is cat pee. Is your cat male? if so, he doesn't really need to actually get up there. He can spray it from nearby.

Is this the same one that smells like cat pee?

I do not know if this is "normal" for Delonix.

I do know many trees and shrubs have "stinky" foliage, they secrete oils and other volatiles to serve as deterrents to insects and plant browsing animals. Some are stronger fragrances than others. Some, like mint or eucalyptus are pleasant to people.

So maybe someone else who has Delonix knows if this is normal?

Otherwise, I think RockM is right, your male cat has the ability to aim its spray. The cat could be doing this because you paid attention to the tree, when he wanted attention. Cats can be spiteful.

Hi All, Today I have been goggling for "Dolonix Regia Smell" and came across this thread. So I have registered to express my solidarity with the author (Ryleigh).
I have similar problem. I have grown the tree form seed and it is now about two years old.
It only recently started to smell.
I am growing it in my home-office inside an led-tent and no cats are able to access it.
The smell recently become very intensive.
Almost to the point I am afraid someone visiting might think that something doggy is going on...
The smell of the tree is similar to c-a-n-n-a-b-i-s-like smell. kind of musky sweet funky smell - In my case it is missing this characteristic punget stale ammoniacal smell of a cat pee - N.B. I have very sensitive sense smell and I can understated that those smells might seem similar to some.
I have relocated the plant to bathroom for now, but if this doesn't improve it is going to be rather difficult to keep it indoor.
I might be inclined to stop watering it to induce transition it to dormant state during which the tree drops all the leafs.
I hate the idea because I love when the plants are thriving.
Unfortunately I might have no choice as the climate in my area is to cold for it to survive outdoor.
Unless you guys have any suggestions?

I have some Delonix Regia grown from seed, outdoors full time, and they don't smell anything funny besides "green smell".
As I live in a tropical country, they are never indoors, if it matters.

Hi! I’m the one who originally posted this thread. After a couple weeks the smell just disappeared. And I do agree that it smelled similar to cat pee but definitely had a more “green” smell. I cut back on watering it to once every 2 weeks so I don’t know if that had anything to do with it.

I'm here because ours has stunk up the whole house and we DO NOT own a cat or smoke cann.ibis. It's an embarassing smell!
