So I had been researching different dog breeds a while. I've asked some of you around about dogs and more. Checked out different breeders and dogs. I found something end of last year. I got myself a Belgian Malinois. I got a trainer experienced in the breed, and then I spent hundreds more in Leerburg training videos. Hundreds more to be spent or thousands. I love this dog. Love training him. He' a fast learner but definitely can be a problem if he's allowed to become one. I've had him one month. Hes about 3 months old now. He doesn't sit still much. My wife and I have so much pleasure in training him.

I told my wife, I love this dog. He's in a way like bonsai. You apply attention and training technique, and he responds immediately. It's very satisfying. Just started watching a video about establishing pack structure, it should have been one of my first videos. Fortunately it's not too late. I'e already started off on the right foot, but perhaps made some errors. Glad I didn't solely rely on my trainer.
 
They are great dogs, very strong willed but hugely intelligent. I used to manage a boarding kennel and we'd get one in called Mac a few weeks a year whilst the owner went away. He was a proper guard dog, left outside on the owners land guarding his pile of scrap. I was the only one that he wouldn't growl at and eventually would listen to, I actually got quite attached and used to take him for walks in the woods around the kennel with my own dogs (despite the fact he was dog and stranger aggressive according to the owner) and let him stay in my flat with me above the office. I put all of his so called issues down to boredom and loneliness, I used to trick train, run and play with him and never had any issues. You have to keep their guarding instinct under wraps by letting them know the correct time and place for that behaviour. And most importantly ensure that you socialise socialise socialise with people and dogs.

Pack theory is outdated, wrong and can frankly be cruel. People like Cesar Millan push it because they're stuck in the past. Yes you can get results but you aren't teaching and changing the dog, you're merely repressing it which can lead to uncontrollable outbursts of frustration.

How do you define pack theory?

Does he still have puppy breath?

I think he has puppy breath. I'm careful to keep face away from his teeth. :D My out command is improving too, thank God.

Anything/anyone that states you must be dominant over a dog and force it to submit to you. Therefore seeing you as the 'alpha' male. The study that this theory derives from was dismissed by the doctor who undertook the research because he realised that the pack of wolves he was studying in captivity were actually nothing like an actual pack of wolves in the wild. Also, dogs are not wolves.

Is this the precursor of having a real baby? The only advice I can give you is having a good sitter so you still can travel to Japan twice a year. :-)

Bottom line I'm having him be respectful and obedient while I'm fair

I won't travel as frequently unless my wife watches him. Dog not equal child but I really have to treat him similarly.
 
The guy is only still when sleeping or pottying. He's a magnificent and goofy rascal altogether. I made him a relatively very calm creature yesterday. I intend to do do that most days. :p:cool:o_Oo_O

They look so funny all scrunched up to poo.
I got Rupert going on the neighbors property. Actually he started it himself. I don't think he likes poo in his yard,training,play area.
 
Great looking pup...and you inpress me. Not many do research. The dog couldn't have found a better home!

I have always felt as humans we shoukd research any animal choice. Make sure we are up for life...of their needs. To make them the best life of their breed/species while in our care.
 
IIt's been Walmart or Home Depot daily in morning. Got a little excited with his progress and walked on the cinder blocks at the garden center with him. The woman manager got upset and gave me some attitude. By that I mean she won't shut up. I only need to be told once. Oh well, it's what it is, and most employees are nice.

Little Rob has been mentally stimulated every morning. I'm adding nights too. Got to call up people with kids to let him see them. Not many around that I know of though.
