Mugo styling advice 1

Hi group

Picked up this mugo several years ago at a big box. The best trunk I could locate at the time.

It is living happily in a colander the last two years and will remain in the colander for now.

It has some movement but I am unsure where to go with the two trunks.

Have done no decandling this year yet, and hoping for some ideas, suggestions on styling.

Sorry for the busy photos, no one around to hold up a sheet or something...tried to post the least busy background shots.

I hope Vance and others with Mugo experience pop in on this thread. That looks to me to have some real good bones but I am no expert with them.

You should consider removing one or other of the two trunks. In your pictures it is pretty hard to tell which of the two is better. Nice tree but now you have to start setting a direction for it. Make sure when you do remove one of them that you leave at least a one inch stub to help redirect the sap rather than abandon the life line.

Thank you vance, I figured one had to go..

I left the one that created the most movement and took the other.
I did leave the stump.

Should I forego decandling this year?

Do the decandling, you will like the results in the spring but do it now. You do realize that you will not get any new growth till Spring?
