Mother/Daughter style Cork Bark Portulacaria Afra

Here's an update. This video was taken a few months ago after repot and defoliation, but the tree is filled out with leaves once again and is quite healthy. I decided on the brown pot, but I'll go shallower this summer. Per some of the advice given here I've grown a branch towards the viewer to fill in the open space that the smaller 'daughter' had.

I had no idea you could safely defoliate a jade. I don’t have one, myself. How does it respond afterward?

Yeah just like most tropicals they can be defoliated as long as they're healthy and actively growing, energy positive. I do it twice/year with most of mine before I add/remove wire and they always do well.

Just let it grow wider on the bottom branches. It looks too narrow now.
Wow a blast from the past - 2.5 years since the last comment! It's fun to see this old post though.
This tree did end up looking really good (IMO) but I sold it before we moved from California to Illinois.

Coincidentally after moving to Chicago I had a guy show me his favorite p.afra and it was this same old tree that I had grown and styled. He had bought it from the guy I shipped it to in Indiana. What a small world. It looked the exact same as I remembered it other than needing a trim. It's fun to see someone else enjoying my old tree.

The photo below is of the tree the day I sold it.
