Morus Alba (White Mulberry) #1

That low branch seems a good branch to use as a "new leader" in 5 longins!

Will see. I might treat this as a shohin and develop as is and not let it get much bigger. The leaves reduce so well that I don't see a reason not to.

Well...it looks like you have an excellent start on the Shohin. Your path of growing seems to be working for you....you’ve got the right touch.

Its got nice reducing genetics so I'll take some cuttings next spring after the first flush lignifies. I tried a cutting on the second flush late summer which did well and calloused but didnt have a chance to root. I figured it would die and tossed it. Always next year.

End of year update. Tree grew well and is developing some nice secondary branching. It has dropped all its leaves after end of season blight of some sort. Next year Im moving back into the shade after july 1st to see if that helps prolong the tree holding its leaves.

Age: 2yrs
Width: 0.31"
Height: 15" (top of @sorce's leader)

Tree has had a lot of scale issues past couple years. Going to try hard to preempt that this year. Will see how it goes. Im inclined to put it in a grow box with little root work to it also to try and gain maximum vigor. Havent decided on that for sure yet. If i can get rid of the scale this year, definitely will do that for 2024..
