Time to make a thread for this miyasama whip that I received from MrMaple on July 2023. As almost all the trees from MrMaple, it is grafted, probably on regular trident root stock. My intent is to allow it to grow a little more, then air layer the miyasama off the root stock. It bare grew during the rest of the 2023 season, and I don't recall it changing colors in the fall. This one was one of the first tridents to wake up this spring with new buds everywhere! Like a larger version of the mikawa JM or my kotohime that develop buds all over the tree.

There is a huge whorl of branches coming out of the very top of the tree and I am debating whether to let them grow and do my first air layer close to it to start developing a clump. Or if I should reduce to 2. Needless to say this seems like a cool cultivar.

My Miyasama from Kadae-en looks very different. Mine has smaller, darker and waxier leaves. They are almost plastic looking...

Mine looks different as well. Leaves are definitely smaller and more congested. I supposed it could just be heavy fertilization while growing at MrMaple.

Here are some pics from MrMaple website. Will post more later once they harden up a little. I do fertilize heavy as well.

This is exactly what mine looks like.
Mine also looks very dwarfed. Op’s looks much larger like the regular trident subspecies ‘formosana’ of which the the miyasama is a dwarf.
