[EDIT] I almost never do this, but I edited the first line of text in this thread from "Mid Atlantic Bonsai Society meeting" to "Mid Atlantic Bonsai Society Spring Festival", which I think was Paradox's intention all along. -BNut [/EDIT]

I was excited about it 'till I saw how much they wanted just to get thru the door. Nevermind the workshops. Maybe It's me but I thought they're a bit over the top. Although I'm sure it's a fantastic event with outstanding people to learn from.

I want to see the material in that $680 workshop!

I think the most I've ever paid for a workshop before was $250 for a Harry Hirao California juniper workshop. I'm not saying it's not worth $680 - I just want to SEE it so I can drool :)

The artists they get dont agree to come and give demos for free, not to mention the cost of their travel.
The material they work on isnt free either. I would venture most are in excess of $1000 and probably double that.

The demos are included in the fee. There are at least 5-6 of them.

The hotel room is also discounted for attendees and the hotel gets a pretty nice fee for the use of the facilities. The show takes up quite a few rooms, from the vendor rooms to the demo room and the workshop rooms.

Hi Folks, I am fairly new to bonsai and am planning on going Sunday morning to see the exhibit and vendor areas. I wish I could have attended more and signed up for demos, but I have too many other things going on. Anyway, I hope to meet some fellow bonsai enthusiasts, perhaps a few potential mentors, and especially some of the local Nuts!

Oh I hope I didn't offend. I apologize if I did. That's the danger with commenting on things thru text. Sometimes your sentiment gets lost in translation. I didn't intend to sound negative. I know it's gonna be a great event that a lot of hard work and overhead goes into. And I'm sure the price of the workshops are fair and well worth what you will take away from it. I just hope if I go I'll be able to take advantage of as much as I would like to. Which I'm sure I will. I'm to close to pass up going. And a novice like me can certainly use any opportunity to observe those with more experience and experts I can get.

No, Im not offended.
Im just explaining why they have to charge what they do for the event.

FYI first time attendees get a discount I think (or they did at one time). The first time I went it was that way.
Youll have a blast, believe me. It will be well worth it.
