This tree was the first JBP that I was ever able to purchase. I acquired it from an auction at my club in October of 2022, and really bought it just because I wanted a JBP in my collection and it was a steal.

This first photo, from September 2023, shows the initial shape of the tree after allowing to grow out a bit for about a year. As you can see, it has a pretty bad twist in the trunk that I had no idea how I would incorporate into a later styling.

This photo, from October 2023, shows how I decided to initially style the tree. I decided the twist could look much better if it was incorporated into a more "literati" style for the composition. I also decided the tree would need a significant angle change and allowed it to sit this way for the entire Fall and Winter.

This latest photo, from this past weekend, is after I decided the tree could be repotted this year. I may have been a bit early on the repot, but our Spring is hard to nail down and I have had success with repotting my other pines a bit early. The angle change was drastic and the roots needed to be reduced by about 50% to fit in this Tom Benda container I chose, so the soil line is mounded pretty significantly in the rear. This will be corrected in a few years during the next repot. I am very happy with how the initial styling on this Pine turned out, and I was super happy with how vigorous the root system was during the repot. I plan to allow the tree to grow this year to regain vigor, and continue to refine this initial design for its future.
What do you Nuts think, though, critiques or recommendations are always welcome. How would you have dealt with this interesting material? Thanks for reading and viewing, I hope you enjoy!
