I collected this maple tree earlier this year in Michigan about 1/2 a mile from Lake Michigan in a large forest. It was definitely not planted by people and neither was anything remotely near it. My best guess is that it would be an Amur maple but honestly it’s leaves resemble a sienna glen maple more to me and the large leave have 5 lobes instead of 3. I know the sienna glen is a rather new type (2000) that is a cross between silver and red maple so I was thinking it might have similar ancestry. Or it might just be an Amur maple and I am just being overly questioning. If anyone has any better guesses I’d love to hear them!

Agreed, red maple, rubrum, is most likely. The leaves can resemble Amur.

Guess it could also be an amur, but less likely.

Rubrum or Silver most likely, but Amur have been planted throughout Michigan in parks/yards. Elongated leaf does have resemblance to Amur. If found in a natural undisturbed forest I'd bet on Rubrum.

Keep observing it as it gains energy and shows its 'true colors' with regard to leaf shape and size. Curious what it is. Nice trunk.
