Picked up this supposed Cryptomeria from my local nursery however, after looking around at several species of Crypto. Japonica and various others in the family I am left thinking otherwise. I appreciate your time.

Attached are the pre and post cuts. Complete beginner here so any suggestions at all will be valued.

Cheers.

Looks like a needle juniper....def not a crypto...or I might be blind....lol

Looks like the Cryptomeria I had when I first started doing bonsai.

seems leggy for cryptomeria....and the needles seem too thin.....are y'all sure that is a crypto?...

yeah, y'all are right, foliage isn't like a juniper...I had to look closer....And now I feel dumb...

Yeah everything I get from the crypto side of things looks to have really long candles, with longer needles. As you can see before I cut it back it had quite large whorls that were out of control(which is why I drastically cut her back), and cone seeds that appeared to match Crypto, but still at a loss as to it's true identity. I know that such a major cut back was kinda on the harmful side for a evergreen but 40 percent of the interior foliage was dead and the rest was comprised of very tight whorls.

Thanks again guys, and as always all takes are appreciated.

cheers.
