I got this Little Princess dwarf Japanese Maple about 3 weeks ago. Aka 'Mapi-no Machi Hime‘. I’m a noob but I’ve been acquiring a lot of trees to work on and am learning a lot from this forum and YouTube ofcourse. When I received this one I repotted it into a pond basket with bonsai soil. I did some pruning, maybe too much I’m not sure, and wired some branches. It’s doing fine and I think it’s about to start pushing a bit of growth.
I’m having trouble picking a leader though. There are 2 branches in the middle wrapped in black wire, both coming from the same spot that I could pick from. I’m sure I can’t leave both because it will lead to inverse taper, correct me if I’m wrong.
I’m leaning towards the taller thinner one bc I think it will provide more movement and taper. But I also feel like removing either one is going to leave a big void of empty space, maybe that’s not a big deal in the long run because I could fill it back in with other branches next year. I dunno.

Please give me some feedback and suggestions. I’ll post before and after pruning pictures as well.
Thanks!

I've found the reason why we can't decide between 2 options is that both options are equally good. That, of course, means that it does not matter which choice you make. Either way you'll still have a good result.
From what I can see it will not matter which you chop.
Toss a coin if you have to but get on with the job.
