I had a one time access to collect a bald cypress on June 18th. I know it's late to collect but it was that day or never. Did pretty good on amount of roots and tried not to remove any more native dirt stuck to roots than possible. Thinned out foliage to balance root/foliage mass. Have it in good quality tree potting soil and watered to submerged in tote container. Not looking real good 5 days later. I don't have any pics of how much roots I got, but I'm thinking I might still have too much foliage remaining on tree. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Put the entire pot in a tub of water out of the sun. You're probably going to lose all the foliage and will have to rely on the tree re-budding in a few weeks. There is still time for the tree to do that before autumn. To maximize it's chances for next spring, You're also going to have to find a place to store it over the winter that doesn't freeze solid in winter.

if its not too hot in the shade a humidity done could help save it, like using the black bag method but doing it more in the shade. I got a bunch of bald cypress cutting right now I am trying to root and the only ones that didn't shrivel up and die were the ones I blacked bagged in the shade of the garage. In fact they are doing pretty good.

Got him out of last year's Rubbermaid "pot" and swamp muck from collection and put in some recycled bonsai soil in a bus tub. Removed a few roots high up on base so i could drop soil line about 3 inches to get a little more flare at the base and chopped the top about 6 more inches. Did some carving on back side where there are no branches to add some interest to that side (Lightning strike damage?). Healthy and growing well!
