Last Survivor....Quince

Having had miserable luck with quince for quite a while, I submit this last one in the herd.
The nursery tag says:
Chaenomeles Speciosa
'Nivalis" (White)
Flowering Quince.

I have no idea what I have done or will do wrong with it. I don't remember what sort of roots it has. Fine and clumpy? Coarse and separated? No damn idea.
1. When should it be repotted? It hasn't been since I got it. It has been a group of sticks for who knows how long.
2. What type of soil?
3. Any pruning needed? When?
4. Big or little pot preferred?
5. Watering preference? I've been watering it when I do the rest of the trees. Seems too much. But maybe not.

Any guidance appreciated.

Best time to repot quince?

Hey guys, I picked up to quince over the weekend that have pretty decent starts for nursery stock. Just curious as to when the best time to repot them would be? They are chanomeles superba crimson and gold I believe.

Hola, amigo. We got the same climate and I love quince.

Roots will be coarse and can be really tough for some species.

I report every 2-3 years, depending on size and whether water is percolating. I go with some organic material, and akadama if I have it. We need some material in there to hold moisture in our hot summers.

I prune hard in the fall. Enjoy the flowers. Prune a bit in the spring and let grow wild over the summer.

All my quince are small and seem to do well in smaller pots.

When it's scorching in the valley, they need afternoon shade. They can cook easily, but almost always strike back in the fall for me.
