Hi all
This is my first piece of yamadori material that I got from my local club. It's around 20 years old and has been kept small by continual nibbling by deer and harsh Highland winters.
The first year I had it, it was left untouched and fed. This year I plan on feeding it and treating with seaweed, but this spring already I can see it is loving the chance to grow and the foliage is around 2-3x what it was last year. Repotted this spring in a free draining mix.
I plan on letting it more or less run free all year, aside from potentially trying to introduce more vigour and strength into the lower branches, removing any crossing branches/dead material etc.
Has anyone got any styling suggestions for this material ?
I initially thought informal upright (stuck a wedge under pot to change angle and it looked better)

Then looking again, felt that perhaps this front shows a better trunk line and might allow for that very low branch to be styled as a low pad or second trunk:

The apex needs some thinning and selection maybe:

I may also select a new leader for the apex to remove this short scared section and create better taper at the top.
Other flaws I can see is the tree needing more back budding/strengthening of inner buds and foliage close to the trunk, or those longer branches need shortening to bring them into proportion with the trunk.
Any suggestions welcome!
