Tonight I cleaned up and repotted an aged shohin Lantana camara. I have seen very few Lantana display such a fine crackled bark; nearly corked. Nice.

Over the years my Lantana have suffered from Lantana Flower Gall Mites, Aceria lantanae. I was unable to identify it until recently and have got my Lantana's back on track. No flowers until we build branching.

First photo is before working.

Second photo; the backside may become the front. I enjoy this view quite a bit.

Third photo is a bark detail photo. Had to dig quite far down to find the nebari.

Last photo is the original frontside. Currently positioned in the pot to display this view, but I will work with the opposite view in mind. It is nice to have shohin designed to be viewed from either orientation for use in display.

Pot is cheap Chinese. By mid-summer I will be looking for a nice pot. Will be due for another repotting by that time as well.

If you just repotted it, how can u repot it again by mid-summer (isn't that too much stress?).

Seth,

you are the man!! That is one difficult shrub to grow well, wood is very soft.
We won't grow it save as a yard plant.
Good Day
Anthony

Your right about the bark. Really looks great.
No experience with the species, personally, but looks pretty cool.....
Good growing....
Who rocks that drum kit?

Lantana is a weed, the roots grow incredibly fast. By mid-summer, the pot will be totally full of roots, I'll be sure to post an update.

This was collected in 2013, and the photos are 5 months after collection in March 2014. I've since given it to a friend.

Ed Trout has very nice cascade Lantana.

Typically the bark is not as fissured as this specimen, but is still rather flaky. You cant fake age. I'd put this tree near 15yrs in a pot. This photo is pulled off of Google, the guy is actually an eBay seller, but this shows typical Lantana bark.
