I hope this isn't too late, I didn't see this contest until January. I purchased a packet of seeds from Sheffield's Seeds (22 seeds), scratched them on some sandpaper, and soaked them for 24 hrs in water with a little lemon juice. Then I put them in the fridge with damp paper towel for 3 months. About two weeks ago, I potted them up and 10 have germinated so far.
I decided to try cutting off the taproots, so today I gently pulled up 9 of the 10 and cut off their taproot (leaving a few tiny side roots at the top of the taproot when possible). unfortunately they don't seem to have liked this and most are looking wilted already. But I always have the one I left alone as backup.

Just a quick update, the cut seedlings all revived overnight and seem to be doing just fine, just a day or two behind in development.

The seedlings I kept (they needed some thinning) are doing ok, there just isn't much to report as they are still just small seedlings. One pot looks to have some sort of nutritional deficiency but I'm not too worried about it as I plan to repot them when they go dormant this winter. I'll probably keep them in the cold greenhouse for their first winter.
