What should you do with the pollen cones? Pull them off? Leave them?
Here's what I do: I let them alone as they develop. Eventually, they turn yellow. Touch them then, and they'll release a little cloud of pollen. I wait until the turn a dark orange. Then when you lightly touch them, they just fall off.
Remove them when they're green, and they leave a bit of an open wound. So, wait.
Here's a yellow one:

And there's also a couple greenish ones, too.
Here's a brownish orange one:
And after I touched it:
All gone!
They're only yellow for a few days. Maybe as long as a week. Probably less.
Pines form pinecones on the very tip of the new shoots. I do remove those as soon as I see them since they use a lot of the tree's energy.
