So I just moved to a new place and brought over all my trees and benches. I have been whittling down my collection, but it never really seems to get any smaller. I am constantly buying new trees, selling old ones and trading up, so maybe someday I'll have it dialed in, but probably not... There never seems to be enough room on just 2 benches, guess I should build a third.

Thanks for sharing, looks like you need another bench for sure. I always say if they're on the ground, it's a new bench or OUT!

There are a couple of trees that I'd like a closer look at! Is that a raft under the window? And is that an elm on the back shelf, left corner?

Your right Judy, its new bench time.

Barry; No and yes. The maple under the window is a very old field grown number in which the main trunk died, and the branches at the base were grown into new trunks. I hollowed the main dead trunk and wired the new ones last year, now its time for some more work. The tree in the upper left is a corkbark elm of some sort, maybe seiju. It is coming along very nicely and may need a final pot next year. Its funny you chose those two to have a closer look at, I'll post more pictures whenever I have a chance.

There are a couple I'd like a closer look at if you do get a chance... The dense crown one at the top right, and the downswept juni?or pine? next to the large maple in the white pot at the bottom left...
Looks like the elm is going to be good.

More pictures.

Here are some of the pictures yall requested. Maple, Elm, Azalea, and I don't know which other one Judy wanted to see... DSCF1933.jpgDSCF1934.jpgDSCF1927.jpgDSCF1928.jpgDSCF1929.JPG

wow there are great trees, thanks for sharing

Yeah, those are nice. Did you make the maple clump like that? Or was it a find? It is super interesting.
Thanks Brian!

Ooooo . . . so nice to see well done Baby Bending!

That maple is wonderful! Keep us posted as it develops.

I'd chop that elm just above that first branch to the left, carve the heck out of the stump, then plant it over a tile sitting on a mature compost heap for 5-10 years. That's what I'd do . . . but nobody in their right mind would do that. :)

Thanks guys! The maple and the elm were actually GIVEN to me by a club member a few years ago. Originally the maple had a tall, solid, dead trunk in the middle with small trunks surrounding it. It looked funny so I hollowed the whole middle out, then gave it a full wiring early last year. I will be trying to thicken the main trunks and their branches this year, hence the wild look.

The azalea was an odd duck in a sea of stereotypical azaleas, and I had to have it. I believe it was imported from Japan, but I'm not really sure. I potted it in the Jim Gremel "moon glaze" pot two years ago. It had a serious scale issue right after, and it is finally recovering well, and even has a dozen or so flower buds! Exciting ;)

That maple has some character! Very cool. Also dig that Gremel pot.

Nice collection Brian.

Is that a pine---the real tall one in the center of the pic in your first post?

Can you tell me about your history with it?

That is an incredible tree. It's so interesting and dynamic. I really like it.

Just got around to building a couple more benches this weekend. Its funny how I never seem to have extra room, no matter how much I give myself I just end up filling the space. There are a few trees in there that no one here has seen before, and threads will be posted on them in the not too distant future. Also, I'll post an informational thread on how to build the two-tiered benches in the pics. Enjoy!

Looks great, Brian! I think I see the CA Juniper you did with Ryan Neil in the first photo. Def post that one as I'm curious.
