Hello All, I'm new to the site but not really to Bonsai. I was active from 2010 to 2016 then took a hiatus and came back in 2020.
I currently have 12 trees but I mess with them too much so this summer I acquired some juniper pre bonsai to mess with thinking I'll gift them next year.
BUT a few died. I have 4 junipers in bonsai pots that are at least 3 years old and healthy but the ones in potting soil I'm killing.
I may have watered too much since I watered them with the bonsai. I'm not sure. So, I restocked a few weeks ago.
They get plenty of sun and I'm watering when dry to the touch. The new stock has brown tips in places and I'm really discouraged.
Any advice would help. Should I leave the browning tips or remove?

Thank You in Advance.

-Marc

Please add your location. Also please show the pot and soil.

Thank you. I am in Rhode Island close to Massachusetts state line.

I'm guessing that's potting soil - if you watering 2 or 3 times a days that too much - you should watch the moisture levels and when it starts to dry then water. The ones with potting soil should be placed in a different section so you don't accidently over water them

I suspect it is watering. Given the pot size you can let the top inch or so dry out hefore watering.

I am just a bit north of you and I water once a day (or less with the more recent weather) for trees in bonsai soil. So these could need less. I'd check for scale too

Thanks so much! Should I leave the brown tips alone?

One way to help juniper and pine health is get them in terracotta pots... the terracotta instead of plastic helps move water away from the root ball.

Also, what is your fertilization been like? For me, ive noticed a huge difference in my juniper growth after really staying on top of fertilizing.
