I am finally getting around to posting my own contest trees and officially throwing my towel into the ring.
Here are some of my contestants. There is a mix of Itoigawa and kishu here. The parent material came from post-fire Telperion stock.
They were cut exactly 2 years ago.
I like to make cuttings that are a little into the brown at the base of new growth from the previous year. They are treated in mild fungicide ( we are wet here in the winter and have issues with fungi) and then dipped in dip and grow 1:10 before going into a cell tray with a mix of course sand, perlite and peat moss. The are left to root in a humid environment (either under a bench or in a greenhouse) until late summer and then were potted up into 4" pots at the end of their first year. The second year they are watered, fertilized and left to grow. They are currently a little slightly smaller than a pencil and about 8" tall.
I usually do lots of 100/year, but I am going to try to keep 20ish flagged for the purpose of documenting over time.
I am really looking forward to this contest and I hope we can all learn from each others sucesses (and possibly some failures)

ps. the wire has been applied in the photos but no bending or twisting has been done.
