Hi all,

I received these cuttings in the mail this afternoon and I was curious what you guys thought. Should I wire them up? Plant them in separate containers? I only have small bonsai soil at the moment for shohin. Would that work? Or keep it traditional potting soil?

Thx

Watch your watering and do nothing rigorous until spring. They've just been in transport, who knows how harsh the roots have been knocked around. Winter is coming, so it's best to aim for a good recovery and prime health right now.
They look like two or three year old seedlings, so you'd probably be fine waiting another year before wiring.

I agree with @Wires_Guy_wires.

In spring 2026, I would separate them into their own pots.
In fall 2026, I would wire them.

Do you have goals for these yet?
I just hope that I can get one of these into a pot to grow out and get gnarly over the years. I separated them as they were bare rooted, but I thought they were going to arrive potted. So this is one of my pots and some soil.

I have 10 I think, so I've got various plans. A few I will allow to grow, while others I'm keeping small. Your goals will shape how you work with these over the next couple years (or not work with for larger trunks).

JBP are fun, so enjoy!
