Japanese Sakura Flowering in Autumn?

I'm curious because my small Japanese Flowering Cherry is flowering in March.
It's the end of summer here, and they are supposed to bloom by the end of winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
(Now this is a long shot, but...) is there a genetic memory that triggers this unusual behavior, or is this just a rogue flowering?

I have a subhirtella cherry, a fall flowering type, but it also blooms a bit in the spring, and sometimes sporadically at other times. I've seen winter blooms on mine before too.
I would say enjoy it!
