This is one of my favourite varieties. The spring colour is outstanding. This tree started as a layer and has quite a bit of worked done to it including 3 roots grafts and a back branch graft to give more depth. You can just see the back graft beginning to show itself from the front in this pic. (after the second branch on the right. This variety is a bit troublesome in that is slightly coarser than the species and does not ramify as easily. But any effort is worth the trouble when you see the spring shoots!

There is good movement in the top. That's my favorite part of this tree.

Have you considered removing the branch third from the bottom on the left? It seems a bit thick compared to its surrounding counterparts. Like its crowding that space. Maybe its just the photo angle. Powerful tree. I love it.

I have one in the ground and its a very vigorous upright grower!

Lovely tree, I like the thickness. How old is he? Can I also ask what is the size of the wire? Thanks

No not at the moment. I'm trying to stay away from ''balancing'' too much. I want to see how it develops even though it's the strongest branch.

Do you have a pic of the new foliage as it buds out? Very nice tree - especially as you grew it essentially from scratch.

I love this. Your branch angles are perfect. The ramification is believable. I like the left recurve at the very top. The thick left branch balances the two thick right branches along with the left recurve at the top, and defines the left-hand negative space as well. I like everything about the apex actually, except the minor problem with that rainbow curved back branch you seem to be working on. Overall nicely done. The nebari seems nice too, but hard to see with the moss, etc.

Thanks Velodog. But you can't see the back branch in that pic. Only the very tip. (just after the second branch on the right).
Here it is soon after I cut off the donor branch. So which rainbow branch do you mean?
