Japanese Hornbeam Penjing

I have had this hornbeam for about 6 years. Inspired by the trees merging with the rocks in the mountains next door to me, I just potted it today with an appropriate rock. I have been training the growth for several year to grow away from the rock, even before I found the rock. Now its time to encouraged the merging of these elements.



I'll take pictures again when the tree is leafed out.

Cattle grazed Chinese privet in one of my pots.

A great pairing! I’m sure the cattle require a lot of upkeep but with those kind of results seems it’s worth the effort.

It will take a couple years to merge but it is growing very well. I let it grow free with no prunning this year. UI want swelling on that trunk and those branches. It is dark now but I'll take a picture tomorrow.
