Japanese Holly Pagoda

id like to pick one up. Anyone have advice on how to care for one? I'm gonna ask here before researching the numerous forums and get conflicting information.

Even if there were more forums...

We got good respectful knowledgeable people here that frequent them all.

IMO...all You'll ever get is conflicting info..
Every tree...and every yard...different.

If you want to keep any particular plant...
It's best to just get one and grow it Yourself.

Do like @Anthony and experiment on cuttings while carefully tending mom.

Some info that shouldn't be conflictable.....

Try not to want any particular tree.
It's Ok...
But if you walk into the nursery to buy a Holly, you may pass up a better tree.

Go to the nursery to buy the best trunk and root spread you can afford.
Regardless (almost) of species.

Sure pick up some rooted cutting of Holly too!
Just don't blow your load on ANY one!

After while you'll find stuff that just grows better in your yard...
And you'll probably gravitate towards those.

I'm big on locals.

Well I should rephrase that. When you just search info online it usually sends you to multiple different forums. Helpful gardener etc. I don't go looking for other forums, just can't be helped if you look for info almost anywhere.

We have a nice weeping Japanese maple in our yard which I'd love to get a cutling off of and try to start one. I've read here how to start one. I think I might try my hand at it. I'm not completely new to bonsai but still definitely an amateur

Air layer it would be the way to go. Pick a likely base and by the fall you'll have a nice beginning.
