Nice base! I would have kept the lower bits to mimic that ancient Oak look that the species is often modelled after. I like the old scar, maybe i'd hollow that to make a uro there.
I'd go for a wider, flowing canopy over a tall one. Down to tastes I guess.

Wide flowing canopy is the goal, definitely! I'm modeling it after this Kingsville Bonsai by Rodney Clemons. It will take a few years until it reaches its full potential.
 
Nice start! I would lose that long, straight trunk in the middle, or at least reduce it. But, some people tell me I cut too much.
