Started this from seed last December. It's growing well but I think time to report. Unfortunately I've been growing on the window and live in humid Miami, Fl. I don't have indoor room for a larger pot so I wanted to ask if anyone knows if it would be safe to grow in the weoutside terrace. I've looked for info online but have found conflicting opinions. Thanks in advance and sorry if I sound new to this because I am.

P.S. I'm also noticing some dead leaves also and would welcome any tips for remedies, fertilizer or anything at all. Much appreciated.

It doesn't look too happy right now...
Climate here is similar to yours in Miami, and we grow them outside.
Take care with foliar fertilizers, they hate them.

Where is here? So no foliar fertilizer?

Sorry yes. Saw that on my computer but it doesn't show on the mobile version of this site

Info on the web says the ideal climate for Jacaranda is USDA zones 9b-11, and Miami is 10b. Also, if do an image search for "Jacaranda Mimosifolia in Miami, FL", it'll show you full-grown blooming trees, there.

One of the most spectacular things I've ever seen were the Jacaranda trees in bloom as I was flying into Mexico City. The jet took a fairly low approach, and as we flew over the city for about 30 minutes (I had no idea how huge it was), we could see giant Jacaranda trees in full bloom were everywhere. It looked surreal. If they'd grow here, I'd have a couple in my yard! The other memorable and surreal part of that flightpath approach were all of the truly massive Mexican flags, LOL!

Anyone have a jacaranda bonsai bloom for them?

I believe Jacaranda's are like Delonia Rex [ Flamboyant ]
very leaf dense, branch poor.
So the most you might get is 6 branches, even with grafting.
No branchlets.

Options are look for amazing trunk root work or get a sleeper
that does get branchlets - Tamarind, an.d has orchid type flowers
at the correct size for a small tree. Yellow or Red dominant

Sleepers are not great for indoor viewing.
Good Day

I too started a seed in January mines healthy about a foot a half maybe. In the spring I changed the soil, maybe thats your problem, the roots cant breathe. It was in some dirt when it was a little guy and then moved it outside into the full sun. Ive fertilized it a few times this summer and its responded well... Its taken off but no branching yet... not sure what I should do to get it to branch out, its very tall and lanky. Il take it in for the winter and hopefully come up with a plan for next spring. Good luck (rocks were so it didn't blow over in the wind, don't really need them anymore its rooted pretty good!)

I grow Jacarandas in the Keys, at least I try to. I got them to about 12 inches tall and the leaves get like yours and they die. I just planted a few more. Some are 3 inches high and I have one pretty decent size one. Its in the same pot as a Serissa. I planted this batch of seedlings in bonsai mix to see if that would be any better. A few died already but the other seemed to be doing ok,,

Here are some pics

THe seedlings despise wind. Two of my seedlings got really beat up and I'm pretty sure they aren't going to make it. I have them out of the wind in the shade now. The other ones seem fine for now.

In the Florida Keys, the problem may not be the wind per se, it might be salt in the sea breeze. The Jacaranda might not be salt tolerant. Your conditions seem fine, if not ideal for jacaranda, so salt in the air is the only thing that came to mind that might be causing problems.

I completely agree. I literally live 200 feet from the ocean but I found this but other sites say sensitive to salt so who really knows.
