I've been TOLD it's bad.....but YET.....

When my trees exhibit creeping water stains up the trunk, it's usually followed by NICE stuff.
New growth, getting greener, etc. Always SOMETHING nice.

I was told it was that my soil was too soggy.

I've noticed that any of the trees that DON'T do it are not as vigorous or thrivy.

The times they REALLY do this is if I let them get pretty dry and then water them well.

But it's always been GOOD at ...my... forest.

Who knows? Just reporting my observation. With apologies. Humbly.

No it's not, Caterpillar.

Your soil does not look too wet. It does need aeration, however. Take a chopstick or rootrake and till up the crust that forms on the soil. This will help improve percolation.

Now I'm thinking, Are your trees exhibiting creeping water stains up the trunk or falling water stains down the trunk. You probably soaked down the whole tree. Gravitational forces would make that water run down. Probably less sun to evaporate the wetness. Great humidity at the soil line. Anyway great observation. Thanks for passing it along. I also have observed 'thrivy' growth from a good soaking. Can we see the top of those trees?

Ok, So you have sat out there and watched it. I just soaked down my dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides). Going to relax and watch what it does.

Thrivyness is particular.

Sorry for the delay . Just came in from observing the redwood. I soaked both. Top and bottom. Observed no creeping. What is your technique?
