So I planted some cherry and lemon seeds in this flat a few weeks ago, just to see if they would grow without scarification. And the only thing to germinate thus far is this solitary seedling. And it's neither a cherry nor a lemon!
Uh, a little help?

Also, is it worth the time and effort to pursue this as an artwork? I'm still learning, and I don't know all the best species to use in the Chihuahua Desert yet.

Idk. I'm so new to this. I'm still figuring out what species thrive here, which survive here, and which one will be dead tomorrow in this dry air. Whatever it is, I didn't plant it intentionally. Lol
I'm going to let it grow and see what happens.

Koelreuteria paniculata
Yep. That definitely makes sense. I collected seeds from a friend's tree; they must have somehow found their way into my soil mix. Thanks for your help solving the mystery! Now I'll let it grow. Maybe, with a little fenagling, it could become a bonsai candidate.
