Cork Bark Chinese Elm.
Might dig down and uncover nebari today as well, the pot is full of fine roots.....gonna take a beer break after this haircut though.
The movement in the trunk is hard to see in the pics, in my opinion.
But the movement is what drew me to this one....all the others looked straight. Low branch ground layered itself....may lose it and make a second one.

Thanks Mike!
Wife is outta town this weekend....the stars aligned with the Nat Arb Bonsai Day in DC today = new tree!
I was just going to ask where it came from.
Being in a nursery can I wondered if regular nurseries carried cork bark elms.
I have my answer.

Wow great bark. Given my recent propensity toward smaller things, my eyes instantly saw a sumo in there... LOL.
Yeah....that may happen some day.....it happened with my other larger Chinese Elm from Meehan's....
I air layered the top off, started a sumo leaner with the stump and first branch.

I admit, that thought crossed my mind, but I allowed it to just cross for now....

And thanks!

Nice fatso. Buuut.. I think.. In the end.. You might end up layering this one.

You do see the slight bulge in the trunk 1/3 of the way up? For me, that ruins the flow a bit I think

Typical for corkers.....doesn't bother me too much yet.
Hopefully the rest of the bark will cork up and that reverse taper will disappear.....or not.
But you may be right.
I'm in no rush.
