In Irvine, South California for a few days. Any suggestions on a good bonsai nursery?

In Irvine, CA for a few days. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good bonsai nursery in the area where I could pick up a shohin or mame to take back to Michigan? Or maybe just to visit and enjoy? Thanks in advance!

I second this. It is a 30 - 45 min drive from Irvine, but its a dedicated bonsai nursery with a good selection of Juniper and Black Pine prebonsai in various stages of development. Here is a couple photos I snapped when I was there a few weeks ago and a shot of the tree I went with:

if time allows, i respectfully recommend Chikugo-en (Gary Ishii) in somewhat nearby gardena.

almost an hour north is Roy Nagatoshi's Fuji Bonsai Nursery in sylmar.

If you are looking for shohin, Gary is the guy. His trees will be more expensive, but they are worth it because they are at a much higher level than what you will find at House of Bonsai. Don't get me wrong, I have done a lot of shopping at House of Bonsai as well, but more for pre-bonsai and large pots.

Last I checked they are closed because of covid. When I called they said if you know what you want they’ll bring it out to the curb.

Akita bonsai nursery on Warner Ave. Huntington Beach. I drove by it many times but never visited it!!!! Just a look from outside, I saw a lot of JBP landscaping style. If you visit it, please let us know. Thanks
