Soo every time I go camping I always check out nearby nurseries ESPECIALLY when its september and nurseries are in a hurry to get rid of everything before fall and winter come. Today I found a nice sized cotoneaster for 25 CAD so I decided to pick it up. However my car is already full because im camping so I am wondering if its out to prune it back right now? Nothing to serious but just to take off some of the longer crazy looking branches. I read that pruning should be done early spring for these guys so I am hesitant.

If pruning shouldnt be done I am going to have to get reeeeeaaal creative with packing the car lol.20230909_144750.jpg

Side note for anyone that loves house plants too, I picked up an elephant ear "mojito" (an elephant ear plant with black variegation) at the same nursery because I have never seen them for sale anywhere until now. 20230909_131922.jpg

No problem trimming cotoneaster horizontalis (or any cotoneaster for that matter) any time of year. Just to be safe don't go right down to bare wood stump but trimming off the long branches is no problem.
If you still have some growing season left it may shoot after the trim. I guess it is getting late in the season up there now so it is likely to just go dormant and wait for spring before responding.
