The black pine was purchased from Suthin by a Houston friend in 2016 when Suthin had his big sale. My friend kept it for several years but then his health began to decline and he sold this tree to me after he was no longer able to care for it as part of his collection. I’ve had it for about 3 or 4 years now. It was not in great health when I received it. I repotted it into a grow pot and just let it grow with moderate thinning from time to time. It lost a few branches as it recovered. During the previous summer it grew very strong and produced vigorous spring candles. In June I decandled it for the first time - it produced a good summer flush that I thinned in fall.
