I have to admit... I posted this just for the pun (I'm bored at work xD)

Though, I have a Kojo no mai cherry tree that is actually having some of its branches drying. Maybe the soil retains more humidity than I though.
 
Some branches dying is indicative of damage (possibly from a pathogen) to those branches.

Some dying branches can cause just some roots to die.

I haven't noticed any symptoms other than the branches drying. I guess I will hope for it to survive until the end of the winter, when I'm planning to prune and repot.
 
Cherry suffer from a whole raft of diseased and are notorious for having branches die back.
