Smoke
Ignore-Amus
I know there are some people that lurk here and am hoping to lure them out with this challenge. I don't know much about this pot. I have lusted over it for 35 years. Had to wait for the original owner to give it up, to a friend whom he offered it to because he had the means to buy it right away since he was moving to Oregon and has known this guy for decades. The original owner was Ripsgreentree's teacher Some old guys here will remember that name. I had known both since I started in 1984. When the new owner decided to part with it due to health reasons, I was offered first grab on the pot and pounced like a rabid dog. I have had it for about three years now and just recently found it again in a box of pots at the new house. I have looked everywhere for an ID on the hanko, and not even sure if its Japanese or Chinese. I do know that in one of the pictures, maybe the last one of the rim, one can see where the dark color is worn down to the Shidei mud. The pot is super smooth with no grog in the clay body. I am pretty sure the darker color is sprayed on, like in some Bigei pieces.
The last three pics are of some Bigei pots with the sprayed on finish.
Outside dimensions 15 1/2 x 11 1/2 x 4 1/2 or 39 x 29 x 12 cm
