Gotta get the broom...

Oh! The tree?

It’s a little larger than Shohin JBP:

It could possibly work as an “off the stand” tree next to the box stand.

I’ve pulled the old needles. The apex area is still too dense. Lots of shoots with more needles than the ones down lower. And lots of little buds, too. So tomorrow, I’ll go thru and reduce the needle count up in the apex, and do some thinning.

I really like the twisted, contorted trunk on this JBP. Not that a tree ever has a “finished look”, but is your aim to frame/showcase the trunk more by growing and filling with more shoots/needles to the left of the trunk and with the lower branches on the left or would that be too symmetrical with the whimsy in the trunk of this tree? Sorry if that’s a silly question.

The “trunk” on this tree is actually exposed roots. Kinda twisted.

It’s a literati exposed root.

Lovely! Do you recommend/encourage winter for needle reduction work? (Assuming you are into winter in your zone) (I suppose this is rhetorical as you are performing the work!) 🤦‍♂️

It’s “fall” work. But it can be done anytime before spring. So, doing needle work during the winter is fine.

The typical schedule is to do JWP, then shimpaku, then JBP.

You know me so well. Gorgeous on both fronts.
Oh! I forgot to post it... this tree has a second front! Darlene, you might like this side better!

View attachment 344056This is a great tree. There are a lot of cool details in this tree! I really like this front too. I especially like the exposed roots on this front - and as Cadillactaste said, “Gorgeous on both fronts”.

Would have liked to see what it looked like before you plucked it
Im always afraid to take too many needles off.

It was bushier. Really thick. You couldn’t see any branches at all.
