I launched a website (AppalachianPlantworks.com) and I'd love for you to check it out :)

Hey y'all. I've been selling trees (mostly starts and a few prebonsai) for a couple years now on the auction sites. But over 2024 I spent what little free time I had building out a website for Appalachian Plantworks to make the weekly photography/admin overhead a little less onerous. I had planned to launch in autumn, but with Hurricane Helene impact, I had to delay until this spring. Anyhow, it's been live for a few weeks now and going quite well. It is mostly geared towards beginners and those looking for starter material, but I would welcome visits from folks here along with any feedback you have to offer. Thanks so much!
Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this question (new to the community and bonsai in general) I was planning on immediately doing a repot for all three of them into 10x10x10 pond baskets and letting them grow out in there. I am planing to bonsai them and would like to thicken the trunks up a bit. I cant plant them in the ground unfortunately. I was planning on putting them directly into a 1:1:1 substrate of Pumice, Lava Rock, 1/4" bark (or something similar composition) to grow. These will be my first real attempt at growing out some bonsai candidates on my own. I am sure you are extremely busy with the new business (congrats by the way) so don't feel pressured to respond, but any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!! I am located in southern IN, 7a.

I purchased a Japanese Maple, European Beech, and Korean Hornbeam.

Just ordered a few and have my eye on that apple now! Thank you! I left Asheville a few years ago will be glad to have a part of it with me here :)

Sure that should be fine. I'm personally not too picky about soils. If it were me I would go more like 1:1:1 pine bark fines, akadama, pumice mixed in. I just tend not to use much lava. A lot of it really is personal preference around appearance, watering schedule, and what's available to you. The only important thing I'd note though is don't do much more than slip potting. Real repotting should be done in spring before leaf out. Best of luck!
