Maybe it wasn't a real bonsai show..

Maybe it was just a small carnival/ fair thing at my church..

Maybe the tree was just a juniper seedling only a few years old, with juvenile foliage and a trunk the size of a toothpick, in a pot way too large..

Maybe the pot was glazed..

Maybe anyone who entered anything got a ribbon(including a kid who just put a couple Legos together)..

Maybe there were too many things wrong with the tree/ display to list... lol!

But maybe it took a lot of courage for me to put myself out there in a way I hadn't done before..

And maybe it looked close enough to a real bonsai that all the non-bonsai folk that were there said, "Oh it's a bonsai tree"..(Maybe it's because the tag said so)

Maybe by next year I'll have something better to enter..

Well, here's the showstopper:

Thats a cool little snow topped mountain rock you have there!

Well done for taking the leap into display, who knows, you could have inspired an interest in new people to start playing with trees!
Thank you

Winning is winning, congratulations!

Congratulations! Entering a show takes some gumption all by itself. I wouldn't question the ribbon. Your tree appealed to people, period. They noticed it and thought it inspirational. That's one of the primary goals of bonsai--communicating to others through leaves and branches.

I would expect this win might spur you on to more shows and tinkering with trees. Now you know why people enter competitions with their trees. It's pretty cool to get recognition and affirmation for your work.

Desire and Courage…..you seized the moment and went for it. Well done. Mighty fine!
