I went to the local bonsai nursery to find a large pot for a penjing rock landscape that i am working on. I may or may not have had a little too much coffee before hand when i came across this swampy. It may not look like much in photo's but it really resonated with me and i could not leave it behind.20180425_162639.jpg20180425_162643.jpg

I already have a plan on how i will style it. I will also more than likely repot it next spring into a large pot to thicken it up. Ibeould love some feedback.

Nice little tree!! I always have loved any type of Cypress. I personally love the bark and the foliage is easy to work with. They are also strong growers...if you want to thicken it up, any thoughts of going in the ground? The only downside is that Cypress can tend to get away from you a little in the root department if you leave them down too long. Nice one though!! Keep us updated.

Cheers! I live in a rental property so i usually avoid putting things in the grounds. I mostly plant them in large storage tubs. I have a rather drastic way to increase taper......

Here is one i did on a ficus 20170904_113844.jpg

I have used this method on my largest swampy and it us pretty much healed over.

I will post pics of my large swampy once i repot it as the majority of the split/taper is under the soil line

Gave it a slight style to see what i had underneath. I am going for more of a pine look20180426_064046.jpg

I think you should trunk-chop right below the part where it straightens out at the top.
