Hey Folks,
just finished mixing a batch of soil for two colanders and J.B,pines [ from cutting ]
at 70 / 30 - 5 mm inorganic to aged compost by volume. The inorganic is as you
know silica based gravel.
Since finding out that compost holds 20 times it's weight in water and one should
not use more than 1/3 by volume in a mix.
I began to wonder, what if -----
[1] As colanders go, those just left in the open and not for ground growing.
Just how much is too much compost.
Something to test next year ------- say 60 % compost to 40 % 5 mm.
Or even more 70 to 30 gravel.
[2] Also if using earthenware pots, how much more compost could one use?
The pot wicks away the water.
Plus, the earthenware body also absorbs water and fertiliser, to release slowly
over time -------------- hmm
Have we been selling the earthen pot as a reservoir short as fertiliser goes ?
Another test for next year.
Lastly gotta show Sifu, a cutting I found with shoots a half inch above the roots.
In this case the tree is already growing a good root, and just how to use this
find as a design goes.
Soil again --------------- what if the idea of the colander is for using more organic'
to feed the microbes and ultimately the roots.
Wonder if that would improve the ability of the soil to trunk thicken ?
Good Day
Anthony
I say ------- silica based gravel, as we found the K2O and Na2O, affects the
acid lovers [ say Tamarind ], This is with the granite or basalt from Canada
used for our roads.
Wonder what that will do to soils near the road?
