That’s nothing, they chewed the insulation off the cable going to my house and the company had to replace the whole line from the street to the cable box on the rear of my house, about 200’ of line. I’d pop them with a pellet gun but I’m sure I’d have a ricochet and either put my eye out or break a neighbor’s window.Pellet rifle. This year alone they have chewed the powder coating of my pool furniture, chewed my trim work on my pool arbor and chewed the aluminum wire that holds my chain link fence to upper post in half about 75 ft. area. We have woods on our property and the neighbors behind us have pecan trees. It is a constant battle every year. My wife won't cook them she says their rodentsView attachment 589931
Screw the traps down. Problem i have with rat traps for vermin is that you catch birds as well sometimes. My squirrels learned to flip the traps to trip them and steal the bait.
I’m in the pellet rifle group. With scope and silencer. They are not illegal inside the city limits in Florida. You don’t have to kill them all. Kill one and bleed it out around your plant area. The rest of them won’t come near the area for a couple of months till the smell of squirrel blood dissipates. We can’t smell it, but they sure can and won’t go near it. I’ve found about 2 months is good unless there is a lot of rain to wash it away.
It may be a territorial thing as well as blood smell. Once they realize no one is defending an area, new residents will move in.Also in the pellet rifle group. I haven't had the same luck with squirrel smells keeping them away though. I had one halfway up my fruit tree hill sitting there for about a day and a half before I could go get the carcass. In that time I watched several squirrels walk right up to and past their dead co-conspirator like he was just napping.
